Healing Mental Illness through Creativity
Dealing with a mental illness is not easy. Actually, it can be quite difficult without the proper support. With a rising number of mental illness cases, people often look for various areas of support and healing.
PeaceLove Co-founder Jeff Sparr is a man on an audacious mission – a mission to make mental illness cool. Not cool to have, but cool to support. If you aren’t familiar with mental illness it can be taboo. Jeff wants to change that because it’s actually really common.
A family man, mental health advocate, teacher and self-taught artist, Jeff is above all a survivor, battling Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) much of his life. After struggling for over 30 years, thanks to loving family and friends, medication, exercise, and cognitive behavioral therapy he has been able to live a fulfilling life and manage his OCD. A friend told him that painting might help reduce anxiety so he stopped at the art supply store and bought some paints, brushes, and canvases and it changed his life. Jeff created PeaceLove Studios, a movement of hope and support for communities impacted by mental health disorders through expressive arts. With the sale of merchandise and support of partners, together they have provided over 17,000 free life-changing experiences.
